Google has announced that it built a new kind of computer (see picture) that is amazingly fast – millions of times faster in fact than what we use today.
Other companies are also working on what is called quantum computing.
Some of them complained that Google exaggerated how much better its new machine is. But even they said that the test device was probably at least 1,000 times quicker than the kind of fast computers we have now.
A really useful quantum computer may still be years away.
But the news has got lots of people excited that we might be able to solve really tough problems which could make all our lives better.
